VW T3 Syncro 2,1 WBX CALIFORNIA Import RUSTFREE

This gray Syncro was purchased in the fall of 2024 from a good friend in Sacramento and technically revived on his own. He lives in Redwood City near San Francisco, works for Lufthansa at SFO Airport as an aircraft engineer, and owns a small collection of classic VWs. A robust Syncro project was intended for everyday trips and occasional off-road excursions. The van was completed in early 2025 – just in time for SyncroFest, where we saw and drove it in person for the first time.

Shortly afterwards, it had to make room – a ’84 911 Cabriolet presented itself. So the Syncro came to us in Germany in September 2025.

**Extensively Technically Overhauled**

After a longer period of inactivity, all relevant assemblies were checked, overhauled, or renewed:

**Drive & Engine**

Front axle transmission incl. viscous coupling overhauled, fresh oil
Rear axle transmission with new oil, differential lock operational

Replacement engine (original VW) with:

new engine service (oils, filters)
valve basic adjustment
completely new coolant
tested engine control unit

**Fuel System**

new Bosch fuel pump
tank cleaned, resealed, renewed with tilt valves
all fuel lines in the engine/tank area new
new fuel level sender

**Cooling**

new radiator
stainless steel coolant pipes
system flushed, new fluid, properly bled
new ventilation/heating cable

**Suspension & Brakes**

rear Old Man Emu shock absorbers
brakes checked, operational, adjusted

**Electrics & Interior**

new starter battery
H4 headlights
new windshield + seal
A/C ceiling unit replaced (air conditioning complete, but deactivated due to standing time)

refurbished seats
working clock in the instrument cluster
beautiful chrome bumpers
16” Mercedes W211 wheels with new tires (registered!)

**Body & Substance – the Big Advantage**

A rust-free Syncro from California has meanwhile become one of the rare fortunate cases. Demand in the USA is huge – and good AWD models are more likely to be imported than exported. This example could nevertheless be reasonably purchased and brought to Germany.

Naturally, the paint carries its Californian life story: patina, small dents and scratches (especially C-/D-pillar). **Deliberately not cosmetically restored** — originality remains preserved and visible.
